Virginia Department of Social Services Energy Assistance Program

Virginia Department of Social Services Energy Assistance Program helps eligible low-income households offset expenses associated with heating and/or cooling their home.

• Applications for fuel assistance to offset heating costs are accepted from the second Tuesday in October until the second Friday in November.
• Applications for assistance with heating emergencies for equipment-related assistance & security deposits are accepted November 1 through March 15.  
• Applications for heating fuel & utility bills (primary heat expense) are accepted the first workday in January through March 15.
• Applications for cooling assistance, including equipment and utility bills, are accepted June 15 through August 15.
