Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services Senior Rent Relief Program offers cash grants of up to $6000 per year to low-income renters 65 or older or renters who are permanently and totally disabled and who have no other assistance to help pay their rent. Applications are renewed annually and are due by May 1. Applications received after this date may be placed on a waiting list depending on available funding. Approved applicants receive monthly benefits on a sliding scale based on income. Combined income for all persons living in the home must be less than $25,600 per year. Applicants must provide proof of income and proof of disability if under age 65.
